Is an IRS identity letter a scam?
Real letters arrive by mail and point you to irs.gov or to the phone number printed on the letter. Use only those. The IRS's identity verification page explains each letter.
How long after I verify will I get my refund?
The IRS says to check again 2 to 3 weeks after verifying; processing can take up to 9 weeks.
