Questions people ask
How do I get my IRS transcript?
Get Transcript Online is now discontinued. You can see your account transcripts online under Tax Records in your Online Account. Online Account transcripts include the current and nine prior years. If you want paper copies of prior year transcripts, you can request them to be mailed to you. Mailing requests cover the current and three prior years. If you don't already have one, you'll need to verify your identity before you can create an online account.
What does code 570 mean on my transcript?
Code 570 is the hold for an additional liability pending or credit hold. 571 or 572 means the hold has been released. A 971 on the same day as a 570 usually means the IRS sent you a letter telling you about the hold.
What does code 846 mean?
If your records indicate that IRS code 846 was used when processing your return, the IRS issued a refund of the overpayment. The date beside that code marks the day that the IRS sent the refund out. If the refund was issued as a direct deposit, it should arrive within a few days of that date. If the refund was issued as a paper check, you should expect it to take longer than a deposit to reach you.
What is the PATH Act hold?
The PATH Act, generally prohibits the IRS from releasing refunds claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit before February 15. And the hold doesn't just apply to the portion of the refund that's due to these credits: it covers the whole refund. The IRS expects most of the refunds that are held will be directly deposited by March 2 in 2026.
